Derby Player Profile – JuggzRnaut

Roller Derby Player - JuggzRnautDerby Name: JuggzRnaut

Derby Team: Miami’s Vice City Rollers

Occupation: Stay-at-home mom

How long have you been skating? As a child, my mom took me skating all the time. She was(is) an incredibly talented skater. It had been over 15 years since I had worn skates when I started derby.

Why did you get involved in roller derby? After seeing the movie, “Whip It”, I became hooked on everything RD! Then I noticed that one of my friends on Facebook (Pree T. Manik) had joined a brand-new team in Miami, and I just had to check it out.

How often do you practice? I try to aim for 4 practices a week, but it’s tough to juggle family life with derby, so I usually make it to 3.

What Pads do you use? Killer 187s for my knees, Triple 8s for everything else.

What Roller Derby Helmet do you use? Right now I’m on a Bell one.

What skates do you use? I just got my Vanilla Brass Knuckles in last week!!! They are awesome!

Where did your nick name come from? Since my derby name is JuggzRnaut, my teammates started calling me Juggz, and it kinda stuck.

What is your favourite part about being a Roller girl? There’s so much to love, but definitely the #1 thing derby has brought to my life is the chance to do something that I would never have dreamt was possible. Roller derby has given me the opportunity to challenge myself in so many ways. There is nothing so valuable to me as driving away from that rink and saying, “If I can do that, I can do anything.”

Any top tips for up and coming Derby Superstars? It’s hard to maintain derby position with an inflated head. Have a humble and kind attitude. It will always pay off.
