Derby Skater Profile – Miss Murder

Roller Derby Skater - Miss MurderDerby Name: Miss Murder

Derby Team: Hard Knox Rollergirls

Occupation: Resident lunatic

How long have you been skating? 5 1/2 years

Why did you get involved in roller derby? long-time friend called me after she joined. She informed me that this was the perfect sport for me.

How often do you practice? Usually 3 times a week. I try to workout 5-6 times a week.

What Pads do you use? Killer 187’s of course & Triple Eight full hand guards. They look like MMA gloves and really protect your hands.

What Helmet do you use? Triple Eight skate helmet with the removable terry cloth inside. I never wash it, but it’s nice to have the option.

What skates do you use? Reidell She-Devil. I have small lady feet and high arches. These fit great.

What were your first pair of skates? I tried out for Hard Knox in a pair of turquoise “reebok” style rental skates that I bought for $5.

Where did your nick name come from? It’s a song by AFI. It’s become my identity.

What is your favourite part about being a Roller girl? I’ve always wanted to be in an epic battle, Every bout is an “epic” battle in my head. Even if a bout is really not that exciting(which is rare), I will relive it a million times and it will be epic.

Any top tips for up and coming Derby Superstars? Roller Derby is a full contact sport. You MUST keep your body conditioned and fit for less injury and longevity. Study your heroes. Eat healthy…beer is good for you 😉
