Roller Derby Profile – Ruby Chaos

How long have you been skating?
Why did you get involved in roller derby?
A friend of mine had tried out in Denver, but decided it was not for her. She moved to Atlanta, and got married and pregnant. One day, while she was cleaning stuff out of her house, she called me over and said, Here are my skates. They will fit you. Atlanta has a Roller Derby league. They have tryouts in 2 months. You are going. So I did! And I made it!

Where did your nick name come from?
Ruby was my high school nickname, and I added the Chaos in college in case I was ever in a punk rock band. Turns out Ruby Chaos makes a pretty good Derby name, too!
Do you have any tips to get rid of that Derby Smell?
I wash them in laundry detergent regularly and let them dry in the sun.
What is your favourite part about being a Roller girl?
Always being able to do something I was not able to 6 months ago. I could not pivot stop for a long time. Now, I use it almost exclusively. That translates to a lot of areas in life that you don’t realize until you think about it
Any top tips for up and coming Derby Superstars?
Never give up. Focus on the things you do well while at the same time, working on things that need improvement. Like t-stop until you can pivot. Soon you will be able to t-stop AND pivot!
