How long have you been skating?
Nearly 2 years now. Seems like a lot longer!

Why did you get involved in roller derby?
I met our captain, Violet Attack while I was running a craft workshop, and it just sounded amazing – rollerskating, feminism, freaks, hotpants and endorphins!

How often do you practice?
3 times a week, usually

What Pads do you use?
The league just clubbed together and bought me some 187 derby pro knee pads for my birthday! I wear TSG wrist guards, Ive had them forever and I really like them.

What Helmet do you use?
At the moment I’m rocking a black No Fear helmet which I bought in a bout emergency!

What skates do you use?
Bont Leather Hybrids with jukes & venoms

What were your first pair of skates?
Riedell R3 – white ones with pink wheels!

Where did your nick name come from?
I was originally called Kathleen Hamma after the lead singer of riot grrl band Bikini Kill, but it got snapped up before I could register it. Coletta L. Damage was a ‘eureka’ moment in the bath! It sounds better if you say it in an American accent…

What is your favourite part about being a Roller girl?
I love the inclusiveness, the fact anyone can join and play, the huge sense of community, the encouragement to be strong and healthy rather than a particular size, being able to wear whatever we damn well please, and the way it fills out your life. The fact I can run a business entirely based on roller derby. Oh, and rollerskating!

Any top tips for up and coming Derby Superstars?
Keep practicing, even when it feels like you’re not getting anywhere. Practice hard, but then also allow yourself to relax and don’t worry about it. It’ll suddenly click.
