Roller Derby Skater – Lady Lazarus

Roller Derby Skater - Lady LazarusDerby Name: Lady Lazarus

Derby Team: London Rockin’ Rollers

Occupation:  Student Nurse

How long have you been skating? 4 years

Why did you get involved in roller derby? A friend introduced me to it and said she knew I’d love it. I went along to a practice one day just to watch, had a pair of skates thrust at me and never looked back!

How often do you practice? We have team practice 3 times a week, but in an attempt to get fitter I’ve also recently joined the gym.

What Pads do you use? I use Scabs knee pads. I’m only a small girl so they initially felt really huge on me, but after suffering a knee injury early on in my derby career due to cheap pads, I no longer compromise on safety!

What skates do you use? Reidell 265’s.

What were your first pair of skates? I started on the RW warrior skates

Where did your nick name come from? I was once asked if I was really into theology, but no! It’s the title of one of my favourite poems.

What is your favourite part about being a Roller girl? The friendships I have formed and the fact I have this wonderful extended family. I also love how no matter where you go in the world a fellow derby girl will always offer you a bed for the night!

Any top tips for up and coming Derby Superstars? Perserverance. Getting better takes time, effort and hard work. As a Jammer I get hit a lot, as a small Jammer I go down a lot. But I pride myself on never staying down, I’ll always come back and try again!
