Roller Derby SKater – Pixie Block

Derby Name:
Pixie Block

Derby Team:
Cardiff Roller Collective (CRoC)/Cardiff Roller Girls

Occupation: Freelance
Private Sports Coach

How long have you been skating?
14 months

Why did you get involved in roller derby?
I ashamedly watched Whip It one day and thought, “Man, that’s badass, I want to do that!”

How often do you practice?
Not practicing currently due to venue issues, but I like to try to skate outdoors as often as possible.

What Pads do you use?

What Helmet do you use?
Lime Green TSG

What skates do you use?
Trusty R3’s

Where did your nick name come from?
It’s just play on words of Pixie Lott.. I don’t even really like her music, I think I just thought it was a good name haha.

What is your favourite part about being a Roller girl?
I just love being on 8 wheels, I love the atmosphere when I bout, I love the adrenaline rush. I love that I’ve found something that I’m actually fairly good at (if I train hard enough). Meeting and bouting with new people is also one of the best things about being a Roller girl :)

Any top tips for up and coming Derby Superstars?
Chances are, a passion for skating will evolve within a few weeks.. But don’t lose focus, don’t get involved with Derby drama (there can be a lot of it), just skate passionately, and skate hard. Don’t ever give up when you hit a wall, pick your feet up and plough through it (metaphorically and physically speaking).
