Roller-Derby-Skater---Sandra-Double-DDerby Name:
Sandra Double D #36/24

Derby Team:
The Sunnyland Slammers

Insurance Claims Service Assistant

How long have you been skating?
About a year and a half

Why did you get involved in roller derby?
As clich as it sounds, I saw ‘Whip It’ and fell in love. I didn’t even realize there was a derby league in Orlando until a friend of mine emceed for one of Psycho Cities games. I started recruitment about a month later.

How often do you practice?
Our league practices twice a week, and we do team practices about twice a month.

What Pads do you use?
Knee pads are the low profile Killer 187s, Elbow and wrist guards are Triple 8s. I also wear the McDavid padded shorts most of the time.

What Helmet do you use?
It’s a purple Triple 8 helmet

What skates do you use?
I just recently started skating on Antik AR1’s with a DA45 plate. Im still getting used to them but they are AMAZING!!

What were your first pair of skates?
My first skates were part of my rookie set and were Rock GT-50s.

Where did your nick name come from?
Well, im naturally ‘Well Endowed’ (my team is known for being busty) and I love the movie ‘Grease’. It seemed a very appropriate mash-up.

What is your favourite part about being a Roller girl?
Wow, there are so many. I love running around scantily clad, so that’s a big bonus. Just kidding, the best part about being a Roller Girl is the amazing women that I skate with and the support and love they show to each and every player.  Getting to hit people and look fabulous doing it is great, but having a community of women who are real and inspiring and amazing is what keeps me coming back week after week.

Any top tips for up and coming Derby Superstars?
The best advice I can give is to never stop trying. That move you can’t seem to master, blocking against the girl you’re terrified of, jamming, whatever it is that is difficult, keep doing it. Eventually you’ll have your ‘Aha!’ moment when it will all fall into place. Those moments are what make this sport so addictive.
